Improving nuclear data evaluations with predictive reaction theory and indirect measurements

نویسندگان

چکیده

Nuclear reaction data required for astrophysics and applications is incomplete, as not all nuclear reactions can be measured or reliably predicted. Neutron-induced involving unstable targets are particularly challenging, but often critical simulations. In response to this need, indirect approaches, such the surrogate method, have been developed. theory key extract reliable cross sections from measurements. We describe ongoing efforts expand theoretical capabilities that enable focus on microscopic predictions charged-particle inelastic scattering, uncertainty-quantified optical nucleon-nucleus models, neural-network enhanced parameter inference.

Our presented research is focused on cross-section measurements of (n,xng) reactions in the framework of Generation IV nuclear reactors studies. Indeed the development of new fast reactors or the investigations concerning new fuel cycles require the improvement of nuclear databases over a wide range of energies, nuclei and reactions. One of the challenges of new measurements, in this field, is ...

NUCLEAR ENERGY AGENCY Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Nuclear MeasureMeNts, evaluatioNs aNd applicatioN

The design of Generation IV nuclear reactors and the research of new fuel cycles require knowledge of cross-sections for different nuclear reactions. Our work is focused on the determination of the cross-sections of (n,xng) reactions occurring in these new reactors. The aim is to measure unknown cross-sections and to reduce uncertainty on present data relative to reactions and isotopes present ...

Unitary correlation in nuclear reaction theory

Since the dawn of nuclear physics (d,p) reactions have been the main tool to extract spectroscopic factors (SFs) (we call them phenomenological SFs), which were compared with predictions of the independent-particle shell model (ISPM). Later on electron-induced breakup reactions and nucleon knockout reactions became new tool to determine the SFs. Reduction of the phenomenological SFs deduced fro...

Exploiting Unlabeled Data for Improving Accuracy of Predictive Data Mining

Predictive data mining typically relies on labeled data without exploiting a much larger amount of available unlabeled data. The goal of this paper is to show that using unlabeled data can be beneficial in a range of important prediction problems and therefore should be an integral part of the learning process. Given an unlabeled dataset representative of the underlying distribution and a K-cla...
